The Marshall Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade band, directed by MMS music teacher Paul Hicks, traveled to Hershey, PA, to participate in the Music in the Parks Festival on May 4, performing two pieces before two judges, both of whom were college music professors. Delegate Michael Webert (R-18th District) visited Fauquier High School May 1 to present the Fauquier High School Falcon Marching Band with a Joint Resolution of the Virginia General Assembly commending the band for "placing tenth in the nation in the 2011 United States Scholastic Band Association National Championship for Open Class Bands." Famous Authors Write to Ritchie Students
Writing letters may seem old school to some, but for two Ritchie Elementary School third-graders the practice brought them a brush with fame. Each year Ritchie third-grade teacher France Wine asks her students to write a letter to an author of their choice. This year students Elena Navin and Maddy Garretson were fortunate enough to hear back from award-winning authors Beverly Cleary and Victoria Forester. Read more >>
Meaghan Brill, agricultural education teacher at Kettle Run High School, will become an assistant principal at Kettle Run effective July 1; she replaces Clarence Burton III, recently named as the new principal of Fauquier High School. A native Virginian born in Prince William County and raised in Aldie in Loudoun County, Ms. Brill earned an associate of agriculture in agricultural business, a bachelor of science in agricultural education and a master of arts in educational leadership and policy studies, all from Virginia Tech. KRHS Student Participates in Urban Journalism Workshop
Kettle Run High School junior Abby Duker participated in the Urban Journalism Workshop, sponsored by The Washington Post, for the second consecutive year. She spent every Saturday from March 2 through April 27 in Washington, D.C., working under the guidance of experienced reporters. Last year she attended the broadcast journalism workshop and this year the print workshop. Read more>>
Two Fauquier High School students, senior Sam Eleazar and junior Matthew Jacobs, won first place in the state in the 2013 Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills Contest held May 3 and 4 in Virginia Beach. The Fauquier team won trophies and an all-expenses-paid trip to Dearborn, MI, to represent Virginia in the National Ford AAA Student Auto Skills Contest to be held June 9-15. Read more>>
