This art course is offered to students who are interested in hand crafts. It will focus on crafts, the history and origination of crafts, understanding of aesthetics, and the use of the elements and principles of design as they relate to crafts used as functional art. Critique and self-evaluation will be included as an important part of each assignment. The course will focus primarily on craftsmanship in the areas of fiber arts, jewelry/wearable art, glass-based projects, applied design, bookmaking, marbling and carving. Student work, chosen at the teacher's discretion, will be exhibited throughout the term. A $25 materials fee will be charged for this class.
Note: This class may not be substituted for Art I if students want to take Art II.
