School Resources Officer

Fauquier County Sheriff's Office

As part of a community partnership between the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office and the Fauquier County School District, Sheriff Joseph Higgs initiated the School Resources Officer Program in 1994. Through this partnership, a Deputy Sheriff was assigned to the two high schools on a full time basis.

The SRO program is a step forward to bring the community, schools, and law enforcement together. The SRO is an asset in the community that attempts to address situations in the lives of students in a manner other than the judicial system.

The SRO's main function is aimed at prevention. The SRO is a resource for students, parents, teachers, and administrators regarding issues in law. The SRO also maintains contact with other agencies that provide preventive and counseling services within the school district.
