Thinking about scheduling for HS Band??
If you have any questions, please ask Mrs. Mergen, or your HS director. They would be happy to help you!
Not sure?
You won't know for sure what HS band is like until you give it a try.
It's easier to try it as a freshmen and see if you like it then it is to start in 10th grade once you've had a year away from your instrument.
Music Opportunities for High School Band Students include:
Classes that meet during school:
Concert Band (class for students who haven't played an instrument before)
Symphonic Band (everyone can sign up)
Wind Ensemble (must audition)
Music Theory/Composition (learn to write music - usually in 10th Gr or later)
Additional Ensembles that meet after school:
Marching Band
Jazz Band
Basketball Band
Flute Ensemble
Clarinet Ensemble
Saxophone Ensemble
Brass Ensemble
Percussion Ensemble
Woodwind Quintets & small ensembles
Brass Quintets & small ensembles
In High School you can be in 1 ensemble, or as many as you want! Some ensembles meet during the school day, others meet in the afternoon, and some even rehearse in the evening or before school to fit your busy sports schedule!
If you sign up for a band class, you ARE NOT required to be in any groups that meet only after school - these are completely seperate, don't worry!
Remember, if you want to schedule for a band class, you must pick "Symphonic Band" on your scheduling packet. The high school band directors will sort students into Wind Ensemble AFTER auditions. You don't even need to worry about it!
Didn't Sign-up for HS Band, but wish you had??
