It may be the best skill you could learn ...Keyboarding...is an elective class offered to 7th grade students and lasts for nine weeks. During those nine weeks, students will use a software program called Micro Type that will be installed on all computer destops. Each lesson contains four to five typing elements: conditioning practice, learn new keys, improve keystroking, build skill, and the a game to improve speed and accuracy.

The primary focus of this class is to reinforce proper keyboarding technique and to increase typing speed and accuracy. Students will be graded on daily exercises, homework, along with four to five typing technique checks where they will be graded on proper typing technique, speed and accuracy along with their ability to keep their eyes off the keyboard.

Learning to type is not easy. It will take lots of self discipline and patience. Sometimes it takes weeks to show just small improvements. If students look at keyboarding as a skill that can be mastered with lots of practice, then they will do fine. One key factor to mastering keyboarding is good technique and lots of practice, at school and at home if a computer is available. At least 10-15 minutes of practice a day outside of the classroom is extremely important for a successful quarter.

Students can use www.freetypinggame.net as a way to practice their typing. Be sure to practice only keys learned...have fun!
