Competitive Middle School Sports Now In Hands Of Sports Leagues

Fauquier County Public Schools announced that it has reached an agreement with Fauquier Youth Football (FYF) to run a middle school football and cheerleading program this fall. That program will be privately run and operated by FYF. The school division announced a "memoranda of understanding" has been signed between the Fauquier County School Board and three additional private sports clubs. Warrenton Youth Sports Club (WYSC) plans to operate basketball and volleyball middle school leagues during the fall and winter months. Fauquier County Soccer Club (FCSC) plans to operate a middle school soccer league next spring. Fauquier Girls Softball Association (FGSA) plans to operate a middle school girls softball league, also next spring.

Under the MOU, the school division will allow use of its facilities and use of the names of the five FCPS middle schools and mascots, although the leagues will not be affiliated with FCPS. The clubs will conduct background checks on all individuals selected to work with the league participants and will strongly recommend that student athletes participating in the leagues have a complete physical/medical examination prior to participation in league activities.

The following are the middle school sports that will be offered, along with the league:

*Tackle Football: Fauquier Youth Football (www.fauquieryouthfootball.com)

*Cheerleading: Fauquier Youth Football (www.fauquieryouthfootball.com)
