CHANGES TO THIS YEAR'S FCPS CALENDAR
There is a change to this year's Fauquier County Public Schools calendar; the change was approved by the School Board during a work session and special meeting on Feb. 25.
The final day of school will be Friday, June 7, instead of Tuesday, June 11. Because of this change, exams days will be Thursday, June 6 and Friday, June 7, both of which will be early dismissal days. In addition, Thursday and Friday, March 21 and 22, originally scheduled to be half days for exams immediately prior to spring break, will now be full days for students in order to gain hours lost to the cancellation of school on June 10 and 11.
Why the Changes?
The final day was backed up two days instead of one due to potential absenteeism if the final day were a half day on a Monday.
These changes are permissible because the school division will now track the number of hours of instruction, rather than the number of days required by the Code of Virginia for length of school year.
