Fauquier County Public Schools
Strategic Planning Process
Aspirations 2015
On September 24-26, 2009, the Strategic Planning Team met to assist the superintendent in the development of a
DRAFT foundation for the division's strategic plan, which is the first step in our year-long strategic planning process. The
DRAFT plan foundation, which can be found below, consists of the following components:
Beliefs: An expression of fundamental values: ethical code, overriding convictions, inviolable principles.
Mission Statement: A declaration of the unique identity to which the organization aspires; its specific purpose, and the means by which it will achieve its purpose.
Parameters: The boundaries within which the organization will accomplish its mission; self-imposed limitations.
Objectives: An uncompromising commitment to achieve specific, measurable, observable, or demonstrable results that exceed the present capacity.
Strategies: Bold resolutions that dedicate the organization's resources and energies toward the continuous creation of systems to achieve the extraordinary as expressed in the mission and the objectives.
During October an Action Team will be formed for each strategy, and November through March these teams will develop action plans, which are specific activities that will enable the school division to reach our stated objectives.
Membership on action teams is open to the public and members of the community are encouraged to become involved by calling (540-351-1004) or emailing (
ahawkins@fcps1.org
) Andy Hawkins, Executive Director of Budget and Planning, and expressing an interest in joining the action planning process.
Once action planning is complete in March 2010, the Strategic Planning Team will meet again on April 15 and 16 to receive an action plan report from each action team. Once action plans are finalized, the draft plan will be brought to the School Board for their review in May and ultimately for their approval in June 2010.
During the month of May 2010, the School Board will hold a public hearing to receive comment from citizens regarding the DRAFT Strategic Plan. The community will be encouraged to come to the hearing and to share observations and suggestions with the School Board at that time.
