Warrenton Middle School students were privileged to have Duane Abel, a syndicated cartoonist, visit in celebration of the “A-B” Honor Roll assembly. Mr. Abel shared with the students his enthusiasm for drawing from a very early age, and his focus on four main words--Learn, Work, Try and Study. During his presentation, Mr. Abel gave a number of his drawings to the students.
Mr. Abel’s career began in a small town in Ohio where he still resides. His dreams were to write and publish comic strips. Those dreams became a reality, when he sold his character, ZED to a local newspaper at the age of 15. A few months later, he signed with a small syndicate making him the youngest syndicated cartoonist in history.
ZED, as he describes, is his best friend. His animations can be obtained by contacting, “Corkey Comics,” or we hope to obtain enough orders from our students to place a bulk order.
Mr. Abel has also published three books. He has offered to send (postage free) to any student at Warrenton Middle who would like to purchase. Interested students or parents may see copies of his work on the walls in the seventh grade wing, as well as on the counter in the office. The books will be personalized, autographed and can be purchased for $14 (postage free). Please make checks payable to Warrenton Middle School. We will order the books when we get a bulk order.
