Welcome to Music at C. Hunter Ritchie Elementary School. The basics of Melody, Rhythm, Form, Tone Color (Timbre), Improvisation, Dance and Movement are taught K-5. We explore many other exciting things during the year including composers, style, time signature and tempo. How music relates to everyday life is integrated into our learning. Library books are read in the younger grades as they relate to the songs we are singing, the country, the topic, or the holiday, for example. Music primarily reaches the sub-dominant side of the brain, but reinforces those dominant and crucial learning areas such as reading, math, geography, social studies, and science.
