  • FCPS Teacher of Year Nominees Honored

    At its Feb. 13 meeting the Fauquier County School Board honored 16 teachers, all of whom have been nominated to be Fauquier County’s representative in the Washington Post Teacher of the Year competition. A selection panel will choose one of the 16 teachers to be the Fauquier County Teacher of the Year, and that teacher will be entered into the Post’s Teacher of the Year competition. The Fauquier County Teacher of the Year will be announced in mid-April. At the school board meeting each school’s Teacher of the Year nominee received an award in the form of a glass apple. The Fauquier Excellence in Education Foundation will also honor the nominees at a reception where each will receive a cash award.

  • Two Students Selected to All-VA Middle School Honor Choir

    Seventh-grade students Annelise Borst of Auburn Middle School and Mikey Goltry of Warrenton Middle School have been selected to participate in the 2017 American Choral Directions Association’s All-Virginia Middle School Honor Choir. Out of 1,096 submissions, 318 students from across the Commonwealth were selected to participate. Each student had to audio record an audition in three parts: a music scale, “My Country Tis of Thee” and a song of their choice. The All-Virginia Middle School Honor Choir will rehearse April 27-30 culminating in a concert at 2 p.m. at the Virginia Tech campus on April 30.

  • FCPS Updating Website to Ensure Accessibility

    Fauquier County Public Schools is currently updating its website at www.fcps1.org in order to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Essentially the update means content on the site will be more limited. For approximately three months the school division has been making changes to the site in response to an out-of-state complaint filed with the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) saying the FCPS site is not compliant with ADA.

  • KRHS Student Wins First Place in Statewide Flag Design Contest

    Savannah Johnson, a senior at Kettle Run High School, won first place in the high school division of the annual Virginia Youth Art Month (YAM) Flag Design Contest sponsored by the Virginia Art Education Association. She will receive an award, letter of commendation, art supplies and large color poster of her work. Christena Smith is Savannah’s art teacher at Kettle Run. In addition, Warrenton Middle School student Josie Hutt won second place in the middle school division of the statewide flag design contest, and WMS student Erin Soldon received an honorable mention in the middle school division. They will receive an award and letter of commendation. Josie’s and Erin’s art teacher is Marisa Pappas.

  • Judges Needed for Local Middle School Science & Engineering Fairs

    Judges are needed for upcoming science and engineering fairs to be held at Fauquier County’s five public middle schools. Qualifications include the following: bachelor’s degree or higher in a science, technology, engineering or math field and familiarity with the experimental or engineering design process. Community members are invited to contact the school coordinator for any of the fairs they would be interested in judging:

  • Judges Needed for Regional Science & Engineering Fair

    Judges are needed for this year’s Fauquier County Regional Science & Engineering Fairs to be held Saturday, March 11 (senior division, grades 9-12) and Saturday, April 29 (junior division, grades 6-8). Qualifications include the following: bachelor’s degree or higher; three years of experience in a related science, technology, engineering or math field; and familiarity with the experimental or engineering design process.   • Eighth Graders to Attend Academic and Career Fair

    Fauquier County Public Schools career and technical education (CTE) programs will host eighth-graders from around the division at the Academic and Career Fair at Fauquier High School on Feb. 15, 2017 (snow date Feb. 16) from 8 a.m. until 2:15 p.m.

  • Smith Fifth-Grader New FCPS Spelling Bee Champ

    In the 12th round – and by correctly spelling the word “sentries” – Lily Von Herbulis, a fifth-grade student at Smith Elementary School, won the 11th annual FCPS Spelling Bee Jan. 29 at Taylor Middle School.
