  • FCPS to Delay Dismissal on Solar Eclipse Day

All Fauquier County Public Schools will dismiss 15 minutes later than normal on Monday, August 21, the date of the nationally anticipated total solar eclipse. Dr. David Jeck, division superintendent, made the decision to delay dismissal by 15 minutes due to the timing of the maximum impact of the eclipse in Fauquier County, which should occur locally around 2:30 to 2:45 p.m. during the normal dismissal time for the school division’s three high schools and four of five middle schools. The 15-minute delay in dismissal time for secondary schools on Aug. 21 will have a domino effect on elementary schools due to the fact that many FCPS buses do a double run – first transporting high school and middle school students home and then returning for a second run to transport elementary school students home.

  • Want to Get the Superintendent's Attention? Try 'Checking In with Dr. Jeck'

Since his arrival in Fauquier County four years ago, one way Dr. David Jeck, superintendent of Fauquier County Public Schools, has answered tough questions about the school division was via “One Hard Question,” a video feature on the school division website at www.fcps1.org. It was a virtual way for stakeholders – students, parents and community members – to ask the superintendent hard questions to which they wanted honest answers. Beginning with this new school year, “Checking In with Dr. Jeck” will replace “One Hard Question (OHQ).”
