Kettle Run Orchestra and Choir

  • Mrs. Kristina Sheppard is the Director of Choirs and Orchestras at Kettle Run High School. Mrs. Sheppard currently holds a Master’s degree in Secondary Education from The Colorado College and a Bachelor’s degree in Music from The College of William and Mary. Mrs. Sheppard is a product of the Fauquier County Public School system, and before returning home to Virginia in 2016 she studied and taught choir in Colorado Springs with her husband during his service with the United States Army. At Kettle Run, Mrs. Sheppard teaches Symphonic Choir, Vocal Ensemble (Women’s), and Choral Ensemble (Mixed), as well as String Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra.     Orchestra Courses Offered at KRHS

    Chamber Orchestra:

    This class is for strings players who are highly motivated and wish to explore more advanced levels of literature.  Students study and perform music literature of grade levels IV, V, and VI.  Students perform concerts at school, compete in district festivals/assessments, and perform in the community.  Private lessons and/or membership in an extra-curricular orchestra or ensemble is expected.  A rental fee for school-owned instruments in required for some instruments.  Membership in Chamber Orchestra is by audition only. 

    String Orchestra (Spring Semester String Orchestra):

    String orchestra is open to players of string instruments (violin, viola, cello, and double bass) with three or more years of prior experience or with permission of the instructor.  Students study and perform music literature of grade levels III and IV.  Students perform concerts at school and in the community.  Regular assignments for home practice will be given with emphasis on technical development and performance preparation.  A rental fee for school-owned instruments is required for some instruments. Membership in String Orchestra is by audition only.

    Choral Ensemble is an advanced mixed ensemble for choral singers who are highly motivated and wish to explore more advanced levels of literature.  Students study and perform music literature of grade levels IV, V, and VI.  Students perform concerts at school, compete in district festivals/assessments, and perform in the community.  Public performances outside of school hours are required. Private lessons and/or membership in an extra-curricular ensemble is encouraged. Membership in Choral Ensemble is by audition only.

    Vocal Ensemble (Spring):

    Vocal Ensemble is an intermediate women’s ensemble for choral singers. Students study and perform music literature of grade levels III and IV.  Students perform concerts at school and in the community, compete in district festivals/assessments, and perform in the community.  Membership in Vocal Ensemble is by audition only.

     

    Symphonic Choir (Fall)

    The choir is open to all interested students in any grade. A wide variety of choral music is studied and performed during the term. Students learn basic singing technique, sight-singing skills, and performance skills. Students perform concerts at school and sing in the community when invited. These performances are outside of school time and are required.
