Homebound Instruction Manager
Homebound instruction is designed to provide continuity of educational services for students whose medical needs, both physical and psychiatric, do not allow school attendance for a limited period of time, as documented by a licensed physician or licensed clinical psychologist. Homebound instruction is not a remediation program, but is considered temporary with a goal of facilitating the student’s return to school within a specific period of time. Not all courses are offered to homebound students. Parents should contact the designated homebound contact person at the child’s school if a referral for this service may be appropriate.
Fauquier County Public Schools Department of Student Services has partnered with Dr. Jonathan Dalton, licensed clinical psychologist who is the founder and director of the Center for Anxiety and Behavioral Change, in Rockville, MD and McLean, VA. He specializes in the treatment of anxiety disorders in children and teens, with the focus on anxiety-based school refusal.
If your family has been impacted by student school refusal and anxiety, and you are a parent or guardian considering Homebound Instructional Services for your student, please watch the video below to learn more about when homebound services may be appropriate, and when it may be counterproductive to the goal of successfully returning your student to school.
