"Proficiency with Microsoft Office was number 3 out of the 20 most common skills that are both important and widely required across positions. These essential 21st century digital learning skills will allow our students to be prepared for colleges and beyond." From IDC's Skills Requirements for Tomorrow's Best Jobs
Note: *A qualified student is one that is currently enrolled in Fauquier County Public Schools and qualified staff is one that is currently employed by Fauquier County Public Schools.
What is the Office 365 Education program?
Office 365 Education for students and staff is a combination of two offerings. First, it provides a cloud-based environment managed by FCPS where students and staff can edit, store, and collaborate on instructional files. It provides 1 TB of OneDrive storage, and Office Online. The second offering is the Student Advantage Program that is available for free to students and staff who currently attend Fauquier County Public Schools. This plan allows students and staff to install Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and more on up to 5 personal PCs or Macs and Office apps on other mobile devices including Android, iPad, and Windows tablets.
How long can students/staff use this plan?
If you are eligible student, you can use the plan until you graduate or are no longer enrolled at a FCPS school. A staff member must be currently employed by FCPS. At expiration, the Office 365 applications enter a reduced-functionality mode, which means documents can be viewed but it isn't possible to edit or create new documents. All online content associated with the Office 365 account will be deleted. All staff and students are encouraged to backup their information to a local storage device if they choose.
As is the case with the FCPS network storage, there are no assurances that files cannot be inadvertently lost. We cannot guarantee that files can be successfully retrieved and it is the responsibility of each user to backup their own data. Graduating students should be encouraged to download their information if they choose. During the summer rollover process, graduating students’ accounts and information with be removed after July.
How do I access Office 365?
FCPS has licensed all students* and staff with Office 365. Logging in as the fcps1.org registered user account, will provide access to the Office 365 Cloud Portal and to the INSTALL button at the top right of the screen. Clicking the install button on a personal device will download and install the applications each user is licensed to use.
NOTE: * Student licensing in Office 365 does NOT include Outlook email, nor any messaging/meeting products (e.g. Teams, Yammer). Students will continue to use their GSuite account for email and meeting.
