    Child Abuse and Neglect Recognition and Intervention

     

    All individuals seeking initial licensure as well as license renewal are required to complete a child abuse recognition and intervention course that meets Board of Education approved guidelines. 
    This online course is provided by the Virginia Department of Social Services training division to satisfy the requirement and can be found at this web address: http://www.dss.virginia.gov/abuse/mr.cgi .
    On the left of the web page, select the "Required Training/Courses" tab under the heading "Child Protective Services." 
    Then select the "CWSE 5691 Child Abuse and Neglect: Recognizing, Reporting, & Responding (for educators)."

    A copy of your certificate should be emailed (preferred) or sent in the courier to Ann Alexander (aalexander@fcps1.org, courier: SBO). The module does not earn FCPS PD credit but does earn five hours toward licensure recertification.

    Dyslexia Awareness Training

     

    Every person seeking initial licensure or renewal of a license shall complete awareness training, provided by the Department of Education, on the indicators of dyslexia and the evidence-based interventions and accommodations for dyslexia. To meet the requirements, the Virginia Department of Education has developed a free online Dyslexia Awareness Training Module.     Hands On CPR/AED and First Aid

     

    Every person seeking initial licensure or renewal of a license shall provide evidence of completion of certification or training in emergency first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and the use of automated external defibrillators. The certification or training program shall (i) be based on the current national evidence-based emergency cardiovascular care guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of an automated external defibrillator, such as a program developed by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross, and (ii) include hands-on practice of the skills necessary to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

    These sessions will be offered by Human Resources through online modules (@ 3 hours) and a fifteen minute hands on training with instructors. Teachers will have the opportunity to take this training through FCPS in the year before their license renewal. Full instructions will be sent from HR to those needing renewal by the upcoming summer and a copy of your certificate will be sent to HR by the instructors for credit.     Virginia State and Local Civic Education

     

    Any individual licensed and endorsed to teach (i) middle school civics or economics or (ii) high school government or history who is seeking renewal of such license is required to demonstrate knowledge of Virginia history or state and local government by completing a module or professional development course specifically related to Virginia history or state and local government. Individuals who hold any one of these endorsements on a Virginia license must satisfy the Virginia history or state and local government requirement for renewal: Early-Middle Education K-8, Elementary Grades NK-8, Elementary Grades K-7, Elementary Grades K-8 , Elementary Grades 1-7, Elementary Grades 4-7, Kindergarten Elementary Grades 1-7, Economics, Government, History, History and Social Sciences, Middle Education Grades 4-8, Middle Education Grades 5-8, Middle Education Grades 6-8, Middle Education Grades 6-7, Middle Education 6-8: History and Social Science, Social Studies-Without History.

    Youth Mental Health and First Aid

     

    The Code of Virginia requires every person seeking initial licensure or renewal of a license with an endorsement as a school counselor to complete training in the recognition of mental health disorder and behavioral distress, including depression, trauma, violence, youth suicide, and substance abuse. 
    This training is offered by the Mental Health Association of Fauquier County and organized by FCPS Student Services. Class information and registration can be found at this web address: https://www.fcps1.org/Page/1398.
    Attendance is automatically submitted and added to your Frontline transcript. County PD credit will vary depending on whether during or outside contractual time; 8 hours of licensure is assigned for all classes.
