Refocus Program

  • What are The Refocus Programs at Southeastern?

    The Refocus Programs at Southeastern Alternative School are available for Fauquier County students in grades 6- 12  that have been long-term suspended  or expelled from their base schools .  The FCPS School Board decides which students are granted special access to this unique educational  opportunity.  This program is not made available to all students on suspension or expulsion.

    The purpose of the Refocus Programs is provide a safe school environment where students on disciplinary restriction may continue to complete courses required for promotion and graduation by using our accredited, online curriculum.

    Additionally, these programs are designed and   structured specifically to assist students establish positive educational and behavior experiences to report back to the School Board when being considered for readmission to FCPS at the end of their disciplinary sanctions.   The keys areas of focus are attendance, academic achievement, behavior, and counseling ( as appropriate).

    There are two sections of The Refocus Programs- Middle School Refocus for students in grades 6 - 8; and High School Refocus for students in grades 9- 12.

    MIDDLE SCHOOL REFOCUS PROGRAM

    What does a normal day look like ?

    Arrival-                     1:45pm

    Online Classes-           1:45pm-4:30pm ( No food allowed; H20 only)

    Dismissal -                  4:30pm

    Middle School students follow a 5-period, year-long schedule in classes such as English, Life Science, Physical Science, Civics, World Geography, Math, Pre-Algebra, and Activities. While the majority of coursework will be completed online at-school, teachers are expected to supplement lessons with additional activities, assessments, and remediation as necessary. Teachers are always available to assist students through their courses providing structured due dates, review sessions, and 1:1 instruction as needed. Special education services are provided as needed.

    HIGH SCHOOL REFOCUS PROGRAM

    What does a normal day look like ?

    Arrival-                     1:45pm

    Online Classes-     1:45-4:30pm ( No food allowed; H2O only)

    Dismissal -             4:30pm

    High School students have the potential to earn four (4) credits per term.  Students are assigned core courses, two (2) during each 9-week period, as appropriate for their grade level and for credit recovery. Core courses include English, Science, Algebra, Geometry, History / Government. Electives are available, but selection is limited. Students are expected to attend classes daily and maintain excellent attendance. The majority of work will be completed online at school, however, students are also expected to work at home on Fridays in order to ensure course completion by due dates. Teachers are always available to assist students through their courses providing structured due dates, review sessions, and 1:1 instruction as needed.  Special education services are provided as needed.
