Fauquier County Public Schools (FCPS1) is proud to announce Bruce McDaniel as the 2026 FCPS1 Principal of the Year.

Bruce McDaniel, principal of Pearson Elementary, brings nearly five decades of experience to elementary education. This year marks his 49th year in the field and his third year leading Pearson Elementary.

McDaniel began his career as a teacher in Wise County, where he taught for nine years. He then spent 26 years in Prince William County as a teacher, and later the assistant principal, at Mountain View Elementary School, and principal of Nokesville Elementary School. Before joining FCPS1, he accumulated 17 years of administrative experience.

Within Fauquier County, McDaniel has also served as principal at Pierce Elementary School and Grace Miller Elementary School and as interim principal at Greenville Elementary School.

“I consider every year as a new and special experience to work with our young students who represent the future,” McDaniel said. “I enjoy spending as much time as possible in the classrooms and seeing the creativity, enthusiasm and interactive learning.”

Superintendent Dr. Major Warner added, “Bruce McDaniel is an outstanding educator whose passion for students and dedication to their success I’ve admired for years. I’ve seen firsthand the energy, care, and passion he brings to his building every day, and Fauquier County is truly fortunate to have him leading the way.”

McDaniel earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Carson-Newman University and a master’s degree in supervision and administration from George Mason University.

In his free time, McDaniel enjoys spending time with his wife, Sue, golfing, and traveling. His commitment to students, staff, and families is felt daily at Pearson and across the division.
