Fauquier County Public Schools (FCPS) students continued to make measurable progress in reading and mathematics during the 2025-26 school year, with pass rates increasing from the previous year and exceeding statewide rates, according to Standards of Learning (SOL) assessment results released Tuesday by the Virginia Department of Education.

Among FCPS students taking SOL assessments, 75.13% passed the reading SOL, up 1.63 percentage points from 2024-25. In mathematics, 74.37% passed, up 2.32 percentage points. Both results exceeded statewide pass rates of 74.31% in reading and 72.88% in mathematics.

The results also reflect a longer-term trend of improvement. Since 2020-21, the division's mathematics pass rate has increased 24.33 percentage points, and the reading pass rate has increased 7.34 percentage points.

“We continue to be encouraged by the progress that our students and staff are making,” said Superintendent Dr. Major Warner. “These results reflect the hard work taking place in our classrooms every day between teachers and students. We will continue to focus on the data, high-quality instruction, and targeted interventions to strengthen our outcomes, and improve student learning.”

Students who take the Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP) also showed strong results. FCPS' VAAP reading pass rate increased 6.37 percentage points, from 81.63% in 2024-25 to 88% in 2025-26. The division's VAAP mathematics pass rate was 79.63%.

End-of-course results also exceeded statewide rates in reading, mathematics and science. FCPS' EOC reading pass rate was 87.09%, compared with 85.79% statewide; mathematics was 86.38%, compared with 85.01% statewide; and science was 76.66%, compared with 75.37% statewide.

When SOL and VAAP results are combined, FCPS' overall pass rates were 75.24% in reading and 74.42% in mathematics.

FCPS will continue to use assessment results alongside classroom performance, student growth and other measures to evaluate student learning and inform instructional decisions.

Virginia is beginning a multiyear transition to higher proficiency expectations for reading and mathematics, with new proficiency expectations being phased in beginning with the 2026-27 school year.

Additional school- and course-level assessment results are available through the Virginia Department of Education's SOL Test Pass Rates and Other Results webpage. The department will update School Quality Profile reports with 2025-26 data in the coming weeks and release School Performance and Support Framework results in October.
