Jennifer Feehan, a mathematics teacher at Fauquier High School, has been named a state finalist for the 2025 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). This prestigious award is the nation's highest honor for K-12 educators in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), recognizing teachers who demonstrate deep content knowledge and the ability to inspire and enable student success in these critical fields.
Dr. David Ferguson, principal of Fauquier High School, praised Feehan’s dedication and impact in the classroom.
"Fauquier High School is thrilled to celebrate Jennifer Feehan’s well-deserved recognition with the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Jennifer’s innovative approach to teaching, combined with her passion for mathematics, significantly benefits our students. Being selected among Virginia’s top educators is a testament to her unwavering commitment to excellence in the classroom. We are fortunate to have her as part of our dedicated faculty at Fauquier High School."
Nominees for the PAEMST must provide evidence of deep content knowledge and exemplary teaching skills. The program, administered by the National Science Foundation on behalf of the White House, alternates annually between teachers in grades K-6 and grades 7-12. Each year, the president may recognize up to 110 exemplary teachers nationwide.
Feehan’s application will now be reviewed by a national committee, alongside the other 2025 state finalists. The White House will announce the winners, who will each receive a $10,000 unrestricted award from the National Science Foundation, a presidential certificate, and the opportunity to participate in a series of recognition events and professional development activities in Washington, D.C.
