Fauquier County Public Schools (FCPS) continues its innovative partnership with Laurel Ridge Work Force Solutions by introducing two new classes for rising seniors in the upcoming academic year. Beginning Fall 2024, students will have the opportunity to enroll in HVAC Level 1 and Plumbing Level 1 courses, aimed at providing comprehensive training in these in-demand trades.
The HVAC Level 1 course will kick off in the fall semester, offering students a foundational understanding of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems. This double-blocked class will feature a hybrid curriculum, blending online modules with hands-on classroom and lab sessions. Through this comprehensive program, students will delve into various aspects of HVAC, including safety protocols, construction math, power and hand tool usage, construction drawings interpretation, and essential HVAC practices.
In the spring semester, FCPS will introduce Plumbing Level 1, providing students with fundamental knowledge and skills in plumbing. This course will also follow a double-blocked structure and utilize a hybrid learning approach. Students will explore topics such as plumbing safety, tool usage, plumbing math and drawings, pipe and fitting installation techniques, fixture installation, and drainage and water systems.
Both classes will be hosted at the newly opened Trades Building on the Laurel Ridge Community College campus in Warrenton. Transportation to and from the campus will be provided for enrolled students, ensuring accessibility and convenience. Interested students are encouraged to reach out to their school counselors for application details. The application deadline for HVAC Level 1 is May 1, 2024.
