Wren Brown

Fauquier County Public Schools (FCPS) is pleased to announce that Wren Brown, an eighth-grade student from Auburn Middle School, has been named the champion of the 20th Annual FCPS District Spelling Bee, held on February 1, 2025. Brown secured the title by correctly spelling the word "bonafide."

The runner-up was Carson Cooper, also an eighth-grade student at Auburn Middle School. Both students delivered impressive performances throughout the competition.

This year’s event featured 45 students representing 11 elementary schools and 4 middle schools across the division. The competition highlighted the exceptional academic abilities of FCPS students, who demonstrated remarkable focus and determination.

Brown will now advance to the Fredericksburg Regional Spelling Bee, scheduled for March 1, 2025. The regional champion will earn the opportunity to compete in the prestigious 97th Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee in May.

John Lucas, reading specialist at Taylor Middle School, served as the event coordinator. Sherron Boddie, secondary language arts supervisor, served as the official pronouncer for the event. Judges included Kathy Crane, elementary language arts supervisor, Amy Fields, elementary literacy coach, and Linda Correll, science, health and physical education supervisor.

FCPS extends its congratulations to Wren Brown, Carson Cooper, and all participants for their hard work and dedication. Their achievements reflect the commitment of FCPS educators and families in fostering a love for learning and academic excellence.
