Cole Thompson, student, and Amy Kidder, art educator

Fauquier County Public Schools (FCPS1) is thrilled to celebrate Cole Thompson, a creative and talented student at Mary Walter Elementary School, who earned 3rd place in the elementary school division of the 2025 Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) Blue Ridge Regional Art Contest.

Now in its 36th year, the VSBA Regional Art Contest highlights the artistic talents of students from across Virginia. Local school board members judged submissions from elementary, middle, and high school students, and Cole’s piece impressed the judges with its creativity, skill, and originality, earning him this prestigious recognition.

"I am so proud of Cole and his ability to explore and create in the art room,” said Amy Kidder, art educator at Mary Walter Elementary. “The smile on his face and the congratulations of his peers as he accepted his award were priceless. Hopefully this recognition will lead him to a lifelong interest in the arts.”

Cole’s piece is proudly displayed in Fauquier County’s School Board Office, giving the community a chance to enjoy his talent.

FCPS1 congratulates Cole Thompson on this outstanding accomplishment and celebrates the dedication and artistic skill he demonstrates every day.
