Taylor National Junior Art Honor Society Engages 5th Graders at P.B. Smith

On Wednesday, February 19, the TMS National Junior Art Honor Society (NJAHS) students took a trip to P.B. Smith Elementary for a day full of creativity, learning, and mentorship with the entire 5th-grade class.

The day began with an inspiring presentation where the NJAHS members shared their middle school experiences, offering insights into electives, extracurricular activities, and what life is like in high school. The 5th graders were eager to learn from their older peers and ask thoughtful questions.

After the presentation, the NJAHS members led the 5th graders in small groups to teach them the art of oil pastel techniques. Students excitedly got hands-on, creating mini art projects using their new skills. To encourage further creativity, each 5th grader received a personalized sketchbook to continue their artistic journey.

The fun culminated in a lively activity where the 5th graders created self-portrait ties, which they proudly wore home as a keepsake. The event was a huge success, with 5th graders asking insightful questions and NJAHS members answering with impressive knowledge and enthusiasm.

This collaborative effort not only fostered a love for art but also helped bridge the gap between middle and elementary school students, creating lasting memories for all involved.
