FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q1: What type of courses does Cedar Lee offer? What about the GT program? (added 2/13/23)
A1: Course offerings are standardized and the same across middle schools, to include programs such as gifted education.
Q2: Since more kids will be going to Taylor and Cedar Lee next year, what will athletics look like? (added 2/13/23)
A2: There will be four schools participating in middle school sports (AMS, CLMS, MMS, TMS). The schools will follow the Middle School Guidelines for participation and eligibility.
Q3: Students will be attending WMS but the school will be called TMS. Why is this? (added 2/13/23)
A3: State reporting for accreditation and assessment requires us to choose one school name. Taylor has been chosen even though the school will operate temporarily at the 244 Waterloo St. address because Taylor will be the school moving forward.
Q4: What if my rising 8th grader wants to attend TMS next year instead of CLMS (assuming he/she is zoned for CLMS). Can I request a zone waiver? (added 2/13/23)
A4: Zone wavers can be requested. However, due to the capacity of the building at 244 Waterloo St., zone waivers will only be granted for extreme hardship.
Q5: What is the process for zone waivers? (added 2/13/23)
Q5: Please see this website for information about zone waivers and to submit a zone waiver request.
Q6: Who will be the TMS principal next year? (added 2/13/23, edited 5/8/23)
A6: Ms. Whitney Boring will be the principal of the combined Taylor Middle School next year.
Q7: How will 5th grade students know what school they will attend next year and what to expect? (added 2/13/23)
A7: Rising 6th graders who will be attending Cedar Lee instead of Taylor have already been notified. All other rising 6th graders who are in the current Taylor or Warrenton zone will attend Taylor at the 244 Waterloo address. The zone maps for next year can be viewed here.
Q8: What will happen if the opening of CLMS is delayed? (added 2/13/23)
A8: Currently, CLMS construction is expected to be completed right before the opening of the 2023-2024 school year. If construction is delayed, we will consider adjusting the school calendar for Cedar Lee only. This would depend on the length of time necessary to complete the project and allow for occupancy.
Q9: What will happen if the opening of TMS is delayed? (added 2/13/23)
A9: Currently, TMS construction is predicted to be completed by the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year. If completion is delayed, students would likely begin the 2026-2027 school year in the building at 244 Waterloo St.
Q10: Is WMS big enough to house all the incoming TMS students? Won't the school be overcrowded? (added 2/13/23)
A10: We anticipate approximately 620 students will attend Taylor at the 244 Waterloo St. building. While this will be a large increase over recent years, Warrenton Middle School has housed more than this many students in the past. We plan to add classroom trailers as needed to accommodate students comfortably.
Q11: When will teachers learn exactly what their teaching assignments will be and which school they will be teaching in? (added 2/13/23)
A11: Teachers will be notified of their teaching assignments for next year by mid-March.
Q12: What will the class sizes be? (added 2/13/23)
A12: Course offerings are standardized and the same across middle schools, to include programs such as gifted education. We anticipate that class sizes will be similar to what they are now in both schools.
Q13: Will there be trailers outside the building? (added 2/13/23)
A13: Yes. We anticipate approximately 620 students will attend Taylor at the 244 Waterloo St. building. While this will be a large increase over recent years, Warrenton Middle School has housed more than this many students in the past. We plan to add classroom trailers as needed to accommodate students comfortably.
Q14: With more students, will there be an additional SSO or SRO? (added 2/13/23)
A14: At this time, there will be one SRO at TMS.
Q15: Since WMS and TMS have different administration, school structure, policies, etc. Which structure will TMS on Waterloo have? (added 2/13/23)
A15: Mrs. Boring and Mr. Malloy will meet to create a structure for TMS. It will be one school next year, TMS. The policies, structure, admin, etc. from both schools will be represented as they merge.
Q16: What will the administration be like at CLMS with there being around 850 students for the 2023-2024 school year? Will there be 2 principals like Taylor? (added 2/23/23)
