Free or Reduced Price Meal Application

POLICY FOR PROVIDING FREE OR REDUCED PRICE MEALS

Fauquier County Public Schools offers free and reduced-price meals under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. Our policy is available for review at each school and central school nutrition office.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for free or reduced-price meals is determined based on household size and income. The Federal Income Eligibility Guidelines are used to assess eligibility:

Automatic Eligibility:

  • Children from households receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) may be automatically eligible for free meals.
  • Children who are homeless, migrant, or runaway are also automatically eligible for free meals.
  • Foster children are eligible for free meals regardless of their household's income.
  • WIC participants may qualify for free or reduced-price meals based on household income.

Application Process

  • Forms: Applications are distributed to all households and are available at each school’s principal’s office, the central office, and online at FCPS Nutrition.
  • Submission: One application per household should be filled out and submitted to the school division at any time during the school year.
  • Requirements: Households must list all members and income details, and sign the application. SNAP or TANF recipients only need to provide their case number and signature.

Review and Appeals:

  • Eligibility Determination: Cornelia Harris will review applications and determine eligibility. Incomplete applications will not be approved.

Additional Information

  • Changes: Households experiencing changes such as income reduction or an increase in household size should reapply.
  • SNAP/TANF Households: May not need to complete an application if automatically eligible. They will be notified in writing.
