Google Workspace for Education

Google Workspace for Education Student Accounts

All students in FCPS are provided with a Google Workspace for Education account. This account allows access to a range of tools that support teaching and learning, including email and productivity applications.

Student Email Access

Each student is assigned an email address ending in @fcps1schools.net.  To ensure online safety, we operate a walled garden email environment—students are only able to send and receive emails within Fauquier County Public Schools domain (@fcps1.org and @fcps1schools.net).

Email access is tiered by school level:

  • Elementary School: Students can email staff members only. Peer-to-peer email is disabled.

  • Middle School: Students can email staff and fellow students within their own middle school.

  • High School: Students can email staff and high school students within the division. Some external addresses (e.g., colleges, scholarship organizations) are whitelisted to allow communication related to college and career planning.

School administrators may request changes to email settings for individual students, or their schools as needed.

Please note: Email is a privilege, not a right, and students should have no expectation of privacy when using their school-issued Google accounts.

Google Workspace Applications

Students have access to core Google applications such as:

  • Google Drive

  • Google Docs

  • Google Sheets

  • Google Slides

However, starting in the 2025–2026 school year, Google requires parent/guardian consent for student access to specific apps. These permissions will be collected as part of the Online Registration process.

Apps requiring parent permission include:

  • Google Earth

  • Google MyMaps

  • Google Maps

  • Google Translate

  • YouTube

  • Khan Academy (Not a Google app but requires permission as the vendor has not signed a Data Privacy Agreement with our division.)

In addition, certain high school computer science courses may require the use of additional Google tools. In those cases, a separate parent permission form will be sent home by the course instructor.

Account Deactivation

Student Google accounts, including email and Drive access, are deactivated within 30 days of graduation or withdrawal from the division.
