Bus Rules

Conduct on School Buses and School Vehicles

  1. Be at your bus stop (5) minutes before the scheduled arrival time.
  2. Stand well back from the road while waiting for the bus/vehicle.
  3. Remain seated at all times while the bus/vehicle is in motion.
  4. Damage done to seats or other equipment must be paid for by the student.
  5. Help keep the bus/vehicle clean, sanitary and orderly by not littering.
  6. Profanity, loud conversation, loud noises and yelling are prohibited.
  7. Fighting while on the bus/vehicle or at the bus stop is prohibited.
  8. Throwing anything out of the bus/vehicle window or having any body part out of the window is prohibited.
  9. When leaving the bus/vehicle, remain seated until the bus/vehicle has come to a complete stop.
  10. If you have to cross the road, cross ten (10) to fifteen (15) feet in front of the bus after the driver has given the "Go Ahead."
  11. Large objects, band instruments and science projects may be carried on the bus/vehicle so long as the student can hold the item(s) on his/her lap. The item cannot be placed in the aisle or near the front or rear doors or occupy seating space needed by another student.
  12. A bus driver or principal may assign a definite seat to a student.
  13. While you are on the bus/vehicle, you are the driver's charge and must obey the driver. The driver has the same relationship to a student while he/she is on the bus/vehicle as a teacher has while the student is in the classroom and therefore is entitled to the same pupil behavior and manners. Any breach of behavior will be handled by the principal as outlined in School Board Policy JFCC_R (Student Conduct on School Buses).
  14. Permission to ride another bus/vehicle may be granted provided there is space available and a note from the parent or guardian requesting permission to ride another bus has been signed by the Principal or designee before permission is granted.
  15. Any student violating these rules will be reported to his or her Principal for action.
  16. In the event that a student misses the bus/vehicle, parents must not follow the bus/vehicle to the next stop in an effort to catch the bus/vehicle. In the interest of safety, we must insist that parents not engage in any activity of this nature.
  17. U.S. Mail - Students who retrieve the family mail from their mailboxes in the afternoon must then wait for the school bus/vehicle to leave their stop and make certain that traffic is clear before going to the mailbox.
