STEM Camp

Spend a fun week learning about different fields of agriculture campers will propagate plants in myriad ways, process agricultural products, learn differences between farm and companion animals, and explore career opportunities in agriculture, food, and natural resources.

Students will learn electrical and electronic concepts using snap boards and electrical measuring devices. They will identify and repair fasteners, use precision measuring tools including torque wrenches and micrometers, disassemble and reassemble small engines, and understand internal combustion engine operation and thermodynamics.

This is an introduction to coding for grades 1-2. Boys and girls will learn the basics of coding through games and the use of Code and Go Mouse, Ozobots, and Code.org. Students will have fun making robots and animated objects move according to their directions.

Cosmetology camp provides an age-appropriate overview of hair, skin, and nails. The camp includes personal care basics, hair care (braiding, blow-dry styling, roller styling, and trendy designs), basic skin care and facials, and nail care (both hands and feet) and nail art design. Students will work on both manikins and one another, learning about the chemistry of hair, nails, and skin care.

In this class, we will make and take each day! Starting with pancakes and chemical reactions and ending with cupcake baking and decorating using the P’s! Each day’s activities illustrate cross-curricular learning in the kitchen.

Have fun with forensic science through hands-on activities.

Students will learn how to build and operate VEX robots through hands-on opportunities, teamwork, and exciting challenges.

Use Minecraft as a tool to explore topics and concepts in science, technology, engineering, math, and history. Each student will complete activities involving building, exploring, socializing, connecting, and researching, using Minecraft as the central tool. Experience with Minecraft is preferred but not necessary.

This course introduces Photoshop, a powerful editing tool from Adobe. Participants will learn selection and compositing and dabble in photography. Projects include creating a "Salad Face" from cut-out vegetables and a retouched self-portrait with a new background. Finished work will be posted on www.fhsportfolio.com.

Make a "sweet" impression with make-and-take cupcake decorating. Students will learn to make and decorate cupcakes like professional bakers using buttercream icing and a variety of decorating tips. Each day, students will decorate and take home a cupcake they designed.

In this class, students will gain a general understanding of the orthographic projection process. They will design, sketch, and draw various objects using both paper and computer-based CAD software. These objects will include both instructor- and student-generated ideas. Once designs are complete, students will 3D print their objects and watch them become a reality.
