Elementary English Language Arts
Welcome to Elementary English Language Arts at Fauquier County Public Schools, where we're dedicated to fostering literacy skills that empower students for success at every stage of their educational journey and beyond.
Our approach to literacy instruction is rooted in providing students with the essential skills needed to become proficient readers, writers, speakers, and listeners, while also nurturing critical thinking abilities vital for their future endeavors.
In alignment with the National Reading Panel's Five Pillars of Literacy Instruction, our curriculum prioritizes:
- Phonemic Awareness
- Phonics
- Fluency
- Vocabulary
- Comprehension
To address these pillars effectively, we employ a variety of research-based programs and resources tailored to meet the diverse needs of our students. From the Heggerty Phonemic Awareness program for reinforcing foundational skills to Benchmark Literacy, a comprehensive program scaffolding learning through complex texts, our curriculum is designed to provide a robust foundation in literacy.
Supplemental programs such as IMSE Orton-Gillingham and resources like RAZ-Plus, Imagine Language and Literacy, and Waterford Reading Academy further enhance our instructional approach, ensuring that students receive personalized support to accelerate their literacy development.
As partners in your child's educational journey, we invite families to explore our literacy resources and participate in family literacy webinars to support continued learning at home.
Together, we're committed to nurturing a love for reading and language that will empower our students to thrive academically and beyond. Welcome to a world of endless possibilities in Elementary English Language Arts at FCPS.
