Middle School POS
The Middle School Program of Studies is designed to guide students and families in selecting courses that support academic growth and future success. Before registering for classes, students should carefully review the program, discuss options with their family, and seek guidance from school counselors and teachers. Middle school is a time of exploration, and students are encouraged to build a strong academic foundation while discovering their interests.
Building a Strong Foundation
Middle school coursework prepares students for the challenges of high school while fostering curiosity and independence. Core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies help develop critical thinking skills, while electives allow students to explore areas like World Languages, Fine Arts, Career and Technical Education (CTE), and Physical Education.
School counselors are available to help students:
- Explore their interests and strengths
- Understand course options and academic pathways
- Set goals for high school and beyond
Preparing for High School and Future Opportunities
Middle school is an important time to start thinking about high school and future career goals. Some courses may offer high school credit, allowing students to get a head start on graduation requirements. Taking advanced coursework, such as Honors or high school-level mathematics and World Language courses, can provide additional academic challenges and help prepare students for more rigorous studies in high school.
For students interested in hands-on learning, middle school electives introduce Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways, offering early exposure to skills that can lead to future certifications and careers.
Course Selection and Planning
When choosing courses, students and families should consider long-term academic and career goals. The Middle School Program of Studies provides detailed descriptions of available courses and outlines requirements to ensure students are on track for success in high school and beyond. School counselors are available to assist with academic planning and to answer questions about course options, diploma pathways, and future opportunities.
By making informed choices now, students can lay a strong foundation for high school and beyond.
