Welcome to Kettle Run High School's iSTEM program!
“If you want to be in the world I live in, which is a creative world with new ideas, then you’ve got to get away from the norm. You’ve got to go for it.”
-Jerry Weintraub
What is iSTEM?
iSTEM is an integrated hands-on, project-oriented, inter-disciplinary introductory engineering, programming and research course for students with advanced abilities in mathematics and science. The class is a two credit science and technology elective course designed to address national educational standards in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Language Arts. Our focus for the 2017-2018 year is on Aquatic ROVs - Submersibles. Students will not only design and build, but will also be conducting research using their ROVs.
What is iSTEM II?
iSTEM II is an advanced research based course focusing on integrated hands-on, project-oriented, inter-disciplinary science and engineering aspects for students with advanced abilities in mathematics and science. The class is a two credit elective course in science and technology education. Students will utilize prior knowledge developed in their science, mathematics, and iSTEM 1 classes to conduct research and implement the engineering design process to address questions pertinent to our local community, the current environment, and cultivate innovative solutions. Students will also focus on gaining knowledge in oceanography and robotics to provide research data to community stakeholders. They will explore advanced problem solving, critical thinking, and engineering. Students will develop advanced skills in engineering design, identifying problems, research standards, brainstorm solutions, design prototypes, test their ideas, make necessary modifications, and present their outcomes in a professional manner.
