• Hello James G. Brumfield Giraffe Family!

It is an honor to join the James G. Brumfield (JGB) Elementary School community as your new principal. I am looking forward to working with our new leadership team and a strong, knowledgeable, and caring school staff. I am eager to begin building relationships with each of our school staff, our students, our families, and our community partners that make Brumfield Elementary an amazing place to learn and grow.

The 2022-23 school year will be filled with new opportunities for our joining students and leadership opportunities for our returning students. It is very important to me that every student, parent, staff member, and visitor who enters our school feels welcome, important, and that their input matters. We want every JGB student to feel excited to be here, and proud to be a member of our school community. JGB will be a school that continues to place the needs of the students it serves first.

I am joining Fauquier County Public Schools after serving 21 years in Prince William County Schools as a 6th grade Language Arts teacher at Unity Braxton (formerly Stonewall Middle School) for 10 years, Administrative Intern at New Dominion Alternation Center for one (1) year, and Assistant Principal at Parkside, Reagan, and Unity Braxton Middle Schools for 10 years. I currently reside in Rappahannock County with my husband Ed, and son Cayden, who will be a 5th grader at Rappahannock County Elementary School this fall. As a family, we enjoy working on our property with our animals, bees, and garden. We also find joy in boating on Smith Mountain Lake, camping, and spending time with my family in Montana and friends locally.

I look forward to partnering with you and working together to ensure your child receives a quality education in a supportive environment. I believe in developing the whole child, and to do this, we will focus on academic growth for every student, as well as supporting their emotional and social growth as well.

Families, I encourage you to take on an active role throughout every year of your child’s school experience. Please contact me if you ever have any questions or concerns. To continue the sense of community, my door is always open; I appreciate and value your feedback. I cannot wait to meet each of you!

    Best,

    Tara Kidwell
