We are a group of students and teachers interested in learning about the way numbers work together, in developing our mental math strategies, and in becoming “nimble with numbers”, all while having some fun! To help us do that, we found the 24 Game, a unique mathematics game that helps us become critical thinkers and problem solvers.
The 24 Math Game was invented in 1988 by Robert Sun. He wanted something to teach children the relationship between numbers through a game. “I wanted to demonstrate that mathematics can be powerful, engaging, and fascinating,” said Sun. “Knowing the answer is always 24 alleviates a classic brand of math anxiety – getting the right answer – and instead puts the emphasis on the process and patterns, what I like to call ‘the method behind the math.’”
