Suspicious Incident and Search Leads to an Arrest
Warrenton - A Fauquier County Sheriff’s Deputy took a juvenile male into custody. A Juvenile Petition and a Detention Order are being requested Thursday afternoon, August 11.
This morning, a staff member at Kettle Run High School informed the School Resource Officer (SRO) of a suspicious individual and vehicle on the grounds of Kettle Run. The SRO attempted to make contact, and the individual fled into the wooded area on foot. Patrol Division deputies, with detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID), coordinated efforts and determined no credible threat existed to the school or students.
A thorough search of the area was conducted for the suspect. Law Enforcement recovered a stolen vehicle that contained a stolen firearm during their investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office is appreciative of the constructive working relationship with Fauquier County Public Schools. As a reminder to the public, be vigilant and “If you see something, say something.”
Meaghan Brill, Principal of Kettle Run High School, credits the collaborative effort. “We were prepared, and our staff knew how to respond,” Brill said. “It was a true team approach – from our school staff to division staff to the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office – everyone came together and immediately responded.”
There was never a threat to any of the students or staff at Kettle Run High School or Greenville Elementary School. As a precaution, FCPS instituted a modified lockdown at four campuses – Kettle Run, Greenville, Auburn and Ritchie. During a modified lockdown, no one is allowed to enter or exit the building. However, instruction continues as usual within the building, including class changes.
Thank you to the community for working with the Sheriff’s Office during this incident. The community’s assistance helped to expedite the investigation and bring it to a positive conclusion.
