The Fauquier County School Board voted Tuesday morning to approve the request from Superintendent Dr. David Jeck to end his contract effective June 30, 2023. Dr. Jeck will assume the role of FCPS Special Projects Coordinator for the term of July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024.

Dr. Jeck has served as the FCPS Superintendent since May 2013. He spent the previous five years as the superintendent of Greene County Public Schools. His career in education has included time as a coach, teacher, middle school assistant principal, high school principal, director of a technical education center and assistant superintendent for instruction.

During his ten years as Fauquier’s superintendent, the school division achieved record-high graduation rates. Dr. Jeck earned numerous recognitions, including the 2018 Region IV Superintendent of the Year and the 2016 Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals Pathfinder Award.

“The School Board is extremely grateful for all of his contributions to making Fauquier County Public Schools the amazing school division it is today,” Board Chair Stephanie Litter-Reber said. “Please join me in recognizing all he has done for the students, staff and the community. Dr. Jeck has been a fierce advocate for all staff and a champion for all kids.”

The Fauquier County School Board appointed Dr. Jeck as the FCPS Special Projects Coordinator, a current administrative vacancy within the school division. In this role, he will oversee the details and design work of the new Taylor Middle School and support the other middle school transitions for the 2023-2024 school year. Additionally, he will communicate and advocate for school safety and security.

The School Board is committed to finding the best candidate to lead the school division. A full superintendent search will be conducted, and applications will be accepted through May 1, 2023. The School Board will then hold a closed session to interview applicants and will vote on the final candidate publicly at a School Board meeting.

“It’s been an honor to serve this school community,” Dr. Jeck said. “I have greatly appreciated the support of my school board, school community, and administrative team through many highs and lows, and it is now time to move on to the next chapter in my life. My wife and I love our community, and we will continue to make Fauquier County our home.”
