'Books for Bob' Book Drive a Success

Books On the Bus (BOB) is stocked with thousands of books for the summer thanks to the generosity of our community.  Book drives were organized throughout March at a variety of locations, including many schools throughout Fauquier County.  On April 4, 2019, 12 volunteers from Greystone boarded two school buses and traveled to schools in Fauquier County picking up 228 boxes of books.

Greystone, a real estate lending, investment and advisory company, with a local office at 419 Belle Air Lane in Warrenton, sponsors an annual Day of Service.  Employees across the country take one day to turn off their computers and join forces to focus on giving back to their communities through activities such as volunteering at homeless shelters, food banks, schools, community centers, and more.

When the buses returned to FCPS Central Complex, the Greystone volunteers were joined by community members participating in the PATH Foundation’s “Let’s Volunteer Day,” a community-wide day of volunteering to benefit organizations in Fauquier, Rappahannock and Culpeper counties.  While the Greystone and PATH volunteers worked hard at Central Complex, 75 students in Mrs. Beachboard’s English classes were sorting, labeling and packing previously collected donations next door at Taylor Middle School.

The community collaboration continued into the weekend with over 20 volunteers coming together on Saturday, April 6, 2019, to continue to organize the massive amount of books donated.  Although it will be several weeks before the final totals are known, one thing is for certain — Fauquier County cares about its children!

While the school year may be coming to an end, the learning will continue throughout the summer as BOB makes weekly visits to locations throughout Fauquier County bringing free movement, music and literacy activities.  For information on where BOB will be this summer, check out @booksbus on Facebook or Twitter.  Additional information can also be on BOB’s website
