Local FFA Member Competes Nationally

(National FFA Organization) – Salem Sifford of the C.L. Payne FFA chapter at Liberty High School recently competed for national recognition in a career development event at the 92nd National FFA Convention & Expo in Indianapolis, Oct. 30-Nov. 2.

The C.L. Payne FFA Chapter from Bealeton, VA, sent chapter member Salem Sifford to Indianapolis to vie for national honors in the area of the dairy handlers activity CDE. Allflex USA Inc. sponsors the event. Stephanie Loring, Miranda Locuratolo, and Pam Woodward are the chapter advisors. Salem earned a gold rating, placing top 10 in the nation.

The dairy handlers activity is a part of the Dairy Cattle Evaluation and Management CDE. Individuals handle the cattle used for selection in the dairy cattle evaluation and management CDE. Handlers demonstrate their showmanship abilities and are awarded medals during the awards banquet held annually.  CDEs and LDEs help students develop the skills to think critically, communicate clearly, and perform effectively in a competitive job market.
