Fauquier County School Board Seeks Letters of Interest for Scott District Seat Vacancy

From December 16 – 29, the Fauquier County School Board will accept letters of interest from citizens of the Scott District who are interested in serving on the School Board on an interim basis. Interested citizens should complete the online form at

The Scott District Board seat was vacated by Suzanne Sloane, who resigned effective the close of the December 15 School Board meeting. Sloane has served as the Scott District representative since January 1, 2016.  The Scott District seat will remain vacant until a new interim Board member is appointed.

Donna Grove, School Board Chair, outlined the process and timeline for filling the Board seat at the December 15 meeting:

  • The Board will interview candidates who submit letters of interest in a closed session on January 3, 2022, at the School Board Office.
  • Following the closed session, the Board will meet publicly and consider the appointment of an interim Scott District Board member who will serve until the Special Election in November 2022, unless otherwise noted.
  • Furthermore, as required by Virginia Code, the School Board must authorize their attorney to petition the circuit court for a special election in November 2022, whereby the Scott District Board Seat will be on the special election ballot.  Persons interested at that time should contact the Fauquier County General Registrar’s Office for details and guidance on that process.
