At the August 9 Fauquier County School Board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Major Warner introduced Mark Malloy, 49, as the new principal of Kettle Run High School. After serving as the principal at Warrenton Middle School for the past four years and the assistant principal at Kettle Run High School for the previous four years, Malloy will take over from Meaghan Brill, who has taken on the role of FCPS Deputy Superintendent.

Mark Malloy was thrilled to be named the next principal at Kettle Run. “I was overcome with emotion of pure joy.  Kettle Run has always been a home to me and my family since I arrived in 2015, so it means so much to me to return home and work with the KR community,” Malloy said.

Dr. Major Warner, division superintendent, has complete confidence in Malloy’s leadership abilities.

“I believe the committee made an excellent choice in selecting Mr. Malloy as the next principal of Kettle Run High School,” Warner said.  “He is a proven and experienced leader who truly understands how to build a strong culture through collaboration and partnership, and he is the right person for the job.  I look forward to seeing him lead KR in the next phase of their journey.”

Malloy earned a bachelor’s in history from George Mason University in 1997 and a master’s in education leadership and supervision in 2012. Before becoming an assistant principal at KRHS, Malloy worked in Prince William County for thirteen years as a middle and high school social studies teacher and three years as a middle school special education teacher. He also spent a year working as a special education resource teacher in Mexico City.

Malloy has also served as a role model for youth outside of the classroom. He has coached soccer for nearly 20 years and coached basketball, track and golf.

Reflecting on his years as principal at Warrenton Middle, Malloy says he is most proud of “the positive impact I had on the community, and they had on me.  I have grown as an educator and person because of the time I spent working with students, staff, and families at WMS.”

Thanks to his family’s influence, Malloy entered the field of education. His grandmother and aunt were teachers, while his stepmother was a principal. Malloy found it natural to carry on his family’s tradition.

“I love working with kids,” he said. “I have always wanted to have a positive impact on the world, and working in education is a profession in which I could accomplish it.”

Asked about what he looks forward to the most as principal of KRHS, Malloy answered, “I’m looking forward to meeting new students, staff, and families within the KR community and reconnecting with the people I may already know.  My goals as principal are to continue the traditions at KR of high academic standards and a great culture.  My focus is to provide a safe environment for our staff and students, continue with a high graduation rate, and increase the success of our students.”

Malloy’s wife, Annie, is a multimedia designer for Consillo. The couple has two children —Mark Jr., 16, and Gloria, 15. In his spare time, Malloy stays active by playing golf, walking, and snow skiing when he has the opportunity. He enjoys being a spectator, too, especially when watching his son and daughter participate in their favorite activities, lacrosse and soccer. His passion for traveling has led him to many favorite destinations, including visits to historical sites with his son and Nicaragua to visit his mother. Malloy spends his free time reading books related to education and history.
