Fauquier County Public Schools (FCPS) announced one change in position and one addition to the team at Monday night's (September 11) School Board Meeting. Dr. Amy Acors, Director of Instruction, Social Sciences, and School Counseling Services will join the Kettle Run High School (KRHS) administrative team as an assistant principal, taking over the position that became vacant when Mr. Mark Malloy was named Principal of KRHS earlier this year. Additionally, Ms. Malysa Rhodes, former Director of Finance at the City of Colonial Heights and Spotsylvania Public Schools, was announced as the School Board Technical Budget Manager.

Dr. Amy Acors – Kettle Run High School Assistant Principal

Dr. Amy Acors (pictured in the center of the photograph) will become an assistant principal at Kettle Run High School. She will assume the assistant principal position vacated by Principal Mark Malloy (pictured on the right of the photograph), who was named to that position in August. 

Acors shared “I am excited to join the Kettle Run High School Community and to be back in a high school setting with students and support their learning and activities.  I am honored to join Mr. Malloy and his team and look forward to getting to know everyone in the school community”.

Acors began her career at Liberty High School (LHS) in 1995, after graduating from Mary Washington College.  At LHS, she taught history and social science for 19 years and was department chair for 9 years. During that time, she earned a Masters in Administration, Graduate Certificates in American History and Government, and a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership. In 2014, Dr. Acors became the Supervisor for History and Social Science and Academic Counseling and in 2017, she became the Director of Instruction, Social Sciences, and School Counseling Services for FCPS.

Outside of her work with FCPS, Dr. Acors serves as President-Elect of Virginia ASCD, Board Member for the Afro-American Historical Association, and the Windy Hill Foundation. She was recently hired as an Adjunct Professor at UVA.

Acors and her family both work and reside within Fauquier County. Her husband, Ray Acors, is retired from law enforcement and is currently the School Security Officer (SSO) at Bradley Elementary. They have two daughters; both of whom attended FCPS. Their oldest, Hayden, graduated from William and Mary last May and began working at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. While youngest, Cassidee, is a senior at Liberty High School, where she is a member of the volleyball team, Champions Together, and is President of the SCA.

In her spare time, Acors enjoys traveling and hiking with her family as well as reading.

Ms. Malysa Rhodes – SBO Technical Budget Manager

Ms. Malysa Rhodes, will become our new School Board Technical Budget Manager and will work to support the School Board Business and Planning Office.

When asked what she is most looking forward to in her new position, “Lysa,” as her family and friends call her, shared, “I am excited about working with an amazing business team and being able to collaborate with school and county staff. I love making a difference in others’ lives, especially the children of our future.”

Lysa is delighted to be coming back to a school culture, after working as a Director of Finance for the City of Colonial Heights for a little over a year and is grateful to be of service to our teachers and students. She finds working within a school system to be very rewarding.

Rhodes comes to Fauquier County Public Schools with 13 years of government experience. She worked 11 and half years within Spotsylvania County Schools, where she began as a bookkeeper in Food Services and later became the Director of Finance of Spotsylvania County Public Schools. Most recently, she served as the Director of Finance for the City of Colonial Heights.

Rhodes graduated from Spotsylvania High School. She has a Bachelors in Accounting from Strayer University and a Masters in Accounting from Liberty University. She is also a Certified School Finance Officer. 

Lysa has four children, ranging in age from nine to twenty-seven, as well as two grandchildren.

In her spare time, she loves watching her youngest child play football and having her children spend time together as a family, especially when the grandchildren are visiting. She also enjoys camping and glamping.
