Each month, FCPS1 schools have the opportunity to nominate a student in their school community who demonstrates such things as exemplary academic efforts, community service, citizenship, athletics, volunteer service, and more. Adrianna Gaitan was announced as November's winner at Monday’s school board meeting.

Adrianna Gaitan, a fifth-grade student at Coleman Elementary, is no stranger to loss. But rather than letting her grief weigh her down, Adrianna decided to support her fellow students who may be experiencing similar feelings by creating "The Memory Stick Project." Adrianna, along with her friends Isabelle and Selah, dedicated their lunch and recess for several weeks to make crafts that they could give away to students seeking support from the school counselor, Mrs. Schmitt. According to Mrs. Schmitt, "Adrianna is one of the most caring, empathetic, and resilient students that I have ever had the pleasure of working with." We are grateful to Adrianna for creating "The Memory Stick Project!"
