A: VPI is a preschool program for at-risk 4-year-olds 

Q: Do parents pay a fee?

A: This program is free for eligible Fauquier County Public School children 

Q: How do I know if my child is eligible?

A: Eligibility is based on family income and child and family risk factors. 

Q: What school will my child go to?

A: If you child is found eligible for the program, they will be assigned to a school with a VPI classroom. Every attempt will be made to place children as close to his/her base school as possible. Current Elementary Schools with VPI classrooms are Ritchie, Brumfield, Miller, and Coleman. 

Q: If I am not a resident of Fauquier County, can I still apply?

A: No.   Families must live in Fauquier County. 

Q: Who can apply?

A: To be considered the child mus

  • be 4 years old on or before September 30th, 
  • live in Fauquier County
  • meet income-eligibility guidelines
  • be toilet trained

Children with special needs or a disability are encouraged to apply 

Q:When can I get an application?

A: Applications will be available on March 1st

Any FCPS elementary school

Q: When is the application due?

A: April 15th 

Q: What if I turn in my application late?

A: Applications received after April 15 will be accepted and reviewed for eligibility. If the class is currently full and the student meets the eligibility criteria, the application will be held and the student will be placed on a waiting list.   If a slot becomes open any time during the school year, we will fill that spot with a child from the waiting list. 

Q: When will I know if my child has been selected to the program?

A: Letters will be mailed in May.

A: Applications can be turned into any elementary school in Fauquier County, Central Complex Building B, or mailed to

Q: What if I need help in another language?

A: Our application is a bilingual application (English and Spanish). If you need help in another language, please call 540-422-7118

Q:Is transportation provided?

A: Yes transportation will be offered to children that are found eligible. 

Q: What are the hours?

A: Hours are the same as the elementary school in which the program is located.   Most schools start at approximately 8:35 and end at approximately 3:20.

 Q: Is breakfast and lunch included in the program?

A: Free or reduced rate breakfast and lunch is based on income. Parents MUST complete an application for free or reduced meals. Applications are available at all elementary schools.   Parents are responsible for paying for meals or providing food from home until notification of approval has been received.

 

 

Q: My child will be 5 by September 30th. Are they eligible?

A: No. The VPI program is only for children who will be 4 by September 30th.

 

Q: Will my child ride on a full size bus? Will my child be picked up at my house?

A: Bus stops are determined by transportation. Child may be on a full size bus with older elementary school students.
