At FCPS1, we ensure our educators are supported in maintaining and renewing their licensure. Here’s what you need to know:

Current FCPS1 Employees

• Keep your mailing address updated with Human Resources.

• Ensure your Virginia license is current, including:

  • Full Name, Degree Level, License Number

  • Validity Dates, Endorsement Areas

  • Certification in First Aid, CPR, AED

  • Training on Child Abuse Recognition, Dyslexia Awareness, and other state requirements.

License Renewal

Teachers with 5-year renewable licenses need 180 recertification points earned over five years. As of July 1, 2018, licenses are valid for 10 years. The renewal fee is $50, payable to the Treasurer of Fauquier County. For more details, refer to the Virginia Licensure Renewal Manual.

Initial Licensure

If you’re new to Virginia or transitioning from another state, visit the Virginia Department of Education’s Licensure Application Page for forms and steps to obtain your license. Effective January 1, 2019, the initial licensure fee is $100.
